About the Academy

Lower Fields Primary Academy is a mixed, comprehensive community primary school serving a diverse community in Bradford, West Yorkshire.

We cater for 420 pupils from Reception to Year Six. In addition, a 26 place Nursery is located in the Foundation Stage Unit. The school is a bright, modern building set in extensive grounds.  The site contains more species of trees than any other school in Bradford, hence the tree logo! Created in September 2000, the school quickly established a reputation in the community as a caring place of learning where all pupils receive a quality education.

I am very proud to be the Headteacher of Lower Fields Primary Academy supported by a highly skilled and dedicated team of staff.  Our school is a richly diverse school community in which different languages, cultures and religions learn together in harmony.

The staff at Lower Fields have high expectations of all the children, and would like them to leave school as confident, polite and independent young people, with the appropriate skills, values and learning to become successful in whatever their eventual career paths will be. We aspire to instil in all our pupils a desire to be a STAR (see below) and to succeed in whatever they do, across all areas of school life and beyond.

Lower Fields ‘STARS’ demonstrate that they are:

Sensible and safe

Trying hard

Achieving success

Respecting and caring

Starting on time, being here every day

The children are at the heart of every decision we make to ensure that they are happy, confident and that the opportunities that are provided for them are relevant to their needs both now and in the future. On entering our school all pupils are allocated a ‘Key Worker’ who acts as a link between school and home. Our dedicated pastoral team work tirelessly with any pupils needing additional behavioural, mental, social or emotional support to fully access all the learning experiences on offer.

We also run a school House System which we believe fosters a sense of community and belonging, encourages healthy competition and celebrates team, group and individual achievements. It provides positive role models in the form of House Captains and all pupils are encouraged to actively engage with House events.

We follow a literacy-rich curriculum, centred around a text, which is linked to our termly themes. Through this engaging curriculum, we ensure that children can foster a passion for learning and curiosity that will help to develop high aspirations and a lifetime of memories. We believe in ensuring that children receive a well-rounded curriculum: including specialist music and sport teaching where individual talents can be spotted and nurtured. Lower Fields also has

extensive, well-resourced outdoor learning facilities, which enable us to embed skills across the curriculum and deliver the Forest Schools Programme.

The school works hard to develop successful relationships with parents, the local community and the other schools in our area. We firmly believe that education is a partnership between home and school and regard you as an active partner in your child's education and value your interest and support.

I hope that this website will give you as much information as possible about our school, the staff and the many activities that our children enjoy through our curriculum and our extra-curricular activities.

In addition to the website we also have the Lower Fields Blog (Click Here to go to the blog). The blog is the place where we share lots of photographs and information about the daily activities in our school.  The children love to share their experiences and really appreciate you taking time to add comments and questions.  The blog is growing over time as we add more information, but it can never replace the first-hand experience of coming to visit us. If you have suggestions to make about its content and design or would like to see us at work please contact me.
